Photographs

Ian has a nice shiny toy, a Nikon D5500. He takes loads of photos, a few of which turn out to be quite reasonable.

Many of the images on the Nikon site are 24 megapixels, sometimes larger. Viewing the thumbnails on the site will probably be OK, but a download could eat into your data allowance.

Some stitched together panoramas. VERY big files

Tiny Game Hunting

These are images of small animals, hunted and photographed while out and about.

The rules:

  • The animal is displayed as large as possible. Preferably taking up most of the image in full HD and not just being a dot in a larger image.
  • No studio work or posed subjects, everything must be in the wild. Although that could include a garden or similar area.
  • Camera is handheld, no tripod, no camera trap, no remote triggering.
  • Post production is limited to basic adjustments such as contrast, brightness, de-speckle.
  • NO super-telephoto lenses with huge magnifications. The idea is to get close to the animal.

The Large Theatre.

Actually it’s the only theatre in Pompeii. The little one nearby is an Odeon.

Hilary and Caroline at Diocleian's palace, Split

Taking Caroline’s mum on holiday. Train to Genoa, cruise to Venice, via Rome, Corfu, Kotor and Split.

These were a couple of university students who were Roman reenactors, making a bit of cash from the tourists.

This is the reenactment group that we play with. No model releases, so personal use only.

Fun with the macro lens

Tiny game hunting

This is the sort of shot I try to get.

This is what the animal usually thinks of my attempt to get close enough.
